A plane passenger is being slammed online for putting their feet up on the seat in front of them, with Redditors dubbing the move "gross."

User ThePuzzleax reposted an image they'd come across on social media to Reddit's r/JusticeServed forum on August 30. Captioned "I woke up to some random kid drawing on my white socks," the snap showed the passenger's foot covered in marker pen.

"Don't put your feet up on the seat in front of you then," wroteThePuzzleax alongside the image, with the post receiving over 23,000 upvotes and almost 1,000 comments.

A survey by airfarewatchdog.com found that 92 percent of Americans don't enjoy traveling by plane. Polling 4,000 fliers, the survey revealed that some aspects of air travel are more hated than others, with fellow passengers a problem for many.

Half of the respondents said the pre-boarding process—such as checking-in and security procedures—was the most anxiety-inducing part of the journey, while 28 percent said booking their flights was the most stressful part.

However, other travelers were also a source of tension. 39.3 percent dreaded being stuck next to someone with a cough, 28 percent feared a seatmate with bad body odor, and 13.6 percent were worried about sitting next to someone who is overweight.

Still, these concerns haven't stopped vacationers from taking to the skies once again. According to the U.S. Department of Transportation, there were 583,584 flights in June 2022. Although not quite the pre-pandemic level of 679,802 (June 2019), it is an increase from 236,000 flights in June 2020 and 565,000 in June 2021.

Reddit users agreed that resting your feet on the back of another passenger's seat is rude.

"Deserved it," agreed ralph__wiggum_.

"Stay out of other people's space, champ," commented jbsgc99.

"What is the kids venmo?" asked turnthewin. "I'd like to thank him for his service."

Nevertheless, there were several debates about appropriate plane etiquette.

"Taking your shoes off on an international flight is not abnormal," said nerdcost. "Putting your shoeless feet in someone's personal space is abnormal."

Cheeky_sailor disagreed, writing: "This comment section is full of ignorant Americans that have never traveled outside of the country and clearly have never been on a 14-hour flight. Taking your shoes off is fine. Putting your feet on the seat handle in front of you is rude."

While CaliforniaNavyDude shared advice on dealing with errant feet if you're traveling by plane.

"There are so many options to deal with this rudeness," he said.

"I'm a fan of the spilt water one. Everyone hates the feeling of wet socks. And if you get a barefoot back as a result, take a sip of water and give 'em the ole wet sneeze."
